Review – Kings of Leon, Aha Shake Heartbreak (2004)

Proof. These were not Kentucky Fried Strokes. You get only one year, write your sophomore, with thirteen songs in less than forty minutes, it appears that the King had a great weekend kick plate. Grabs for the unspeakable and never, never, be, thankfully, is also measured in an hour. Oh, it's dirty! Genet dirt! Everyone knows, but inexorable. Opener Slow Nights, So Long, swamp rock toes, I saw her standing MOP is wasted seventeen years, and hates his face, butWhat do you want? And you're done, go through a series of signs in the mud Faulkneresque Patois shows that falls in Mumbles Day Old Blues yodel, and we must follow.

All songs are rhythmically different, are in Rock and Roll, Country, Psychedelic-cap, post-punk, Goth gets a nod too dark. Smells antics on the road, past the hook is all away Gritty and squelch a buzz that hovers over everything. The pace and the weather is nice Bedlam, verse and chorusmismatching between them, but it is jerky, the boys groan from the back to keep us rolling, while Caleb on his premature hair loss little premature I think, Rolling Stone! Balding Star instead! Already complaining about his youth slipping, screaming Eighteen! There was something here? There were opponents, and who can blame them? Strangled by hordes of faux-retro bands that was brilliant for an album or two, burned up in smoke just pathetic. And there were worrying signs, no matterthat still remembered the nose of the old marsh, but were young and beautiful and cool and … Lynyrd Skynyrd not. So we have in the past or fear of pop, because it could be a different Creedence? Has no influence to be there? Or, how dare you, but maybe the Kings are better! I mean, Black Crowes, is not.

What To Do if You’re Hiking and You Encounter a Bear

Lynyrd Skynyrd Articles No Comments

Image : http://www.flickr.com

In truth, none of the larger mammals in New England woods want anything to do with us. As long as we’re far enough away from them, they’ll likely take off in the opposite direction before we know it. But if they feel threatened or cornered, it’s a whole different story.

The only bear you’ll encounter in New England is the black bear (even though they are sometimes more brown than black in color). Black bears, like its forest roommates, are trying to adjust to shrinking habitat. As a result, they are becoming more and more brazen around people. They’ve been known to enter cabins and automobiles to raid food storage bins and make off with whatever they can.

In general, black bears are far more afraid of you than you are of them, and if you make a lot of noise as you hike or set up camp, you’ll very likely drive any nearby well away. But if you do come upon a bear unexpectedly, you need to know what to do.

Situations triggering aggression are usually surprise encounters. For instance, you round a corner only to find a black bear standing nearby with two cubs, and–uh oh–you’re between mom and her babies. That scenario is probably the worst of any other meeting in the woods. Bears will attack anyone who comes between a sow and her cubs.

Second, there’s great danger in hanging around a bear’s kill site. If you’re hiking or looking for a good place to camp, be on the lookout for carcasses and scavenger birds, such as ravens and crows, congregating in a specific area. If you see them, you may be near a kill site, so keep moving on well away from it.

Finally, bear leave any number of signs that they’ve been around, which means they’re likely to show up in a specific area a number of times. The signs range from tree scratch marks to scrape marks in or near a fire pit. Should you see any of these signs, or if you’re near a game trail, find another spot to camp.

When you do set up camp, make sure that you set up your outdoor kitchen well away and downwind of your campsite. While bears cannot see well, their sense of smell is many times stronger than that of mankind’s, so when you cook a meal, it’s a good idea to:

1. Cook only as much food as you plan to eat. Anything left over can be a bear magnet.

2. Change your clothes after cooking and double bag them in heavy-duty plastic bags. Bears can pick up the scent of food from the clothes you were wearing when cooking.

3. Never store food in your tent or your car. The best way to store it is to use a bag fastened to a rope that you throw over a tree branch that’s too high for a bear to reach.

4. If you see a bear, but it has not seen you, quietly back away from it. Do NOT run! Never turn your back on a bear. If it’s headed toward you on a trail, get downwind of it and let it pass, or take an off-trail detour, again downwind.

If a bear does see you and it’s a good distance away, you want to make sure it knows that you’re human and not a threat. Speak calmly to it and slowly wave your arms above your head. That makes you look bigger and tells the bruin you’re human.

Testing Out Your Guitar Ability With Easy Guitar Songs

Lynyrd Skynyrd Articles No Comments

Image : http://www.flickr.com

If you have been playing the guitar for a few weeks or months then you may be at a point where you have become bored with the monotony of practicing notes and chords. This type of practice is important, of course, in order to gain a sense of familiarity with the guitar, but it can also become boring if you do not diversify your practice routine occasionally.

One great way to change things up is to add some easy guitar songs to your practice sessions. Easy guitar songs can be hard to find if you don’t know what to look for. Easy guitar songs for beginners are even harder, since you don’t really know what is considered easy. Easy guitar songs for beginners are considered songs that have less than 4 chords. So if you listen to a song and hear more than 4 separate chords being played, this is not an easy song. Easy guitar songs are those that have few changes and rely more on accompaniment to create the song rather than the main melody.

There are a few songs available on popular radio over the past few months that many beginners are trying out for the first time. Although some are played with a faster rhythm than others, here are a few ideas on some easy songs to learn as a beginner.

- Hey There Delilah by the Plain White T’s

- Seven Nation Army by the White Stripes

- Comfortably Numb by Pink Floyd

- Time of Your Life by Green Day

- Iron Man by Black Sabbath

- Zombie by the Cranberries

- Sweet Home Alabama by Lynyrd Skynyrd

- Californication by Red Hot Chili Peppers

- Buddy Holly by Weezer

- Paparazzi by Lady Gaga

- I Know You Won’t by Carrie Underwood

- I Will Follow You Into The Dark by Deathcab for Cutie

- More Than a Memory by Garth Brooks

- Down the Road by Kenny Chesney

- You’ll Think of Me by Keith Urban

- The Climb by Miley Cyrus

- Use Somebody by Kings of Leon

These are only a few songs, a drop in the bucket compared to the thousands of easy guitar songs a beginner can play. Talk to your online lesson teacher about teaching you one of these songs, or simply sit down and learn them yourself. It is always best to have a song taught to you by a teacher, but if you are unable to take online lessons it will take you a bit longer to learn them due to figuring out chords and progressions.

The Wacky 70s – The Classic Songs & Genres That Defined an Era

Lynyrd Skynyrd Articles No Comments

Image : http://www.flickr.com

The 70s were another memorable decade of classic songs from many legendary singers and bands with most of them following up with the innovations made in the 60s. As a result, new genres were invented in this decade, all of which are featured in the following article.

At the beginning of the 70s, progressive rock was certainly the order of the day as it followed on from the psychedelic rock movement from the mid to late 60s. Artists such as Pink Floyd and Genesis dominated this genre during this period with the most famous song being “Another Brick In The Wall” by Pink Floyd. Progressive rock was also sometimes referred to as art rock and one of its major exponents was the British band 10CC whose song “I’m Not In Love” is a must-listen timeless classic.

The punk movement also has its origins in the middle of the 70s with major bands such as The Sex Pistols and The Clash becoming idols for an entire generation. Punk music continues today and it’s largely due to these pioneers who continue to be held in high esteem by modern punk artists.

The 70s also saw many Southern and country rock bands have tremendous commercial success. The Eagles were the dominant band of this genre conjuring up 5 number 1 hit singles in the US during this period. Their signature song “Hotel California” remains one of the all time classic rock songs. Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “Sweet Home Alabama” also symbolizes the 70s for a whole generation while other bands such as America enthralled audiences with their simple yet catchy songs.

Hard rock and heavy metal truly arrived in its more well-known form in the 70s led by bands such as AC/DC, Queen and Led Zepellin. Songs such as “Highway To Hell” and “We Will Rock You” became anthems of hard rock fans the world over. Other rock bands chose a slightly different direction with their music. For example, Electric Light Orchestra mixed conventional rock with classical music with amazing results. Songs such as “Sweet Talkin’ Woman” and “Livin’ Thing” are also emblematic of the rock genre of this era.

Disco is probably the genre which dominated the 70s and which best defines the decade. It seems as if the word ‘disco’ is intrinsically and eternally tied to the 70s. It was so dominant that at the height of its popularity in the late 70s, the only way that artists could have a hit was to sing a disco tune, which many of them did with varying levels of success. At the height of the disco movement, the Bee Gees and ABBA dominated the charts and worldwide sales. However, the most famous song from this era was probably “Y.M.C.A” by the Village People which has since become one of the most popular anthems for the gay community. The Saturday Night Fever soundtrack from the Bee Gees is essentially what symbolizes all things disco in the 70s.

There’s absolutely no doubt that the 70s will be remembered for its wide range of genres and classic songs that defined a generation.

Nashville – Embracing Country Music

Lynyrd Skynyrd Articles No Comments

Image : http://www.flickr.com

The CMA Music Festival, hosted by the Country Music Association (CMA), encompasses four days of country music concerts, as well as musician and fan interactions. Despite its emphasis on country music and country music artists, the festival also showcases selected artists in other musical genres. In 2007, rock ‘n’ roll revivalists Los Lonely Boys and ’70s heavy rock legends Lynyrd Skynyrd made appearances.

Over 200 artists attend the event each year to hold up to 30 hours of autograph sessions and “meet-and-greet” sessions with their fans at the Nashville Convention Center. Many artist fan clubs also hold gatherings in the area during the festival. The festival usually begins the day after the Tnn/CMT Country Music Award show, the only fan-voted country music awards. During the festival, attendees can choose from the 100 hours of concerts that are offered on stages at Riverfront Park and LP Field.

Up until 2001, the evening concerts were organized by record labels, with each label choosing which of their artists would be able to perform, and for how long. However, beginning with Fan Fair 2001, these main concerts were grouped instead by record distribution group. This allowed for four main concerts, for Sony, WEA/EMI, UNI, and BMG.

Artists are held to very strict timeframes for their performances, with Martina McBride noting in 2007 that she was expected to be on stage for exactly 34 minutes. The artists are not paid to attend the festival or for their performances during the festival.

Half of the proceeds from the festival each year (estimated at US$200,000 in 2001) are donated to charity, while the other half is earmarked by the CMA for “the advancement of country music”.

The inaugural Fan Fair was held in April 1972 in Nashville’s Municipal Auditorium, and 5000 fans attended. The following year, the event was moved to June in the hope of finding better weather conditions, and attendance doubled to 10000 fans. In the third year, the first non-country musician, Paul McCartney, was invited to perform, and Dolly Parton and Porter Wagoner performed a duet for the last time.

In 1991, singer Kathy Mattea attended Fan Fair despite being under doctor’s orders not to speak so that her injured vocal cords could heal. She used a computer to type messages for her fans to read as she held “conversations” with them. Two years later, Shania Twain met her future husband, producer Mutt Lange, at the festival.

Fan Fair underwent large changes in 2001. For the first time, the event was held over a long weekend instead of during the week. At the same time, the festival moved from its long-time home at the Tennessee State Fairgrounds to several sites clustered in downtown Nashville. In 2004, CMA renamed the festival the CMA Music Festival in order to change negative perceptions, embrace the CMA brand and to expand the appeal of the event.

In 2008, the CMA Music Festival will take place from the 5th to the 8th of June, and tickets are available now. Hotels in Nashville are expected to get booked up quickly, so if you’re keen to get you dose of country, make sure you book ahead.

What "Key" is a Song In?

Lynyrd Skynyrd Articles No Comments

Image : http://www.flickr.com

“Key” can refer to a several things. They include:

1. The key signature or parent major scale

2. The root

3. The first note or chord of a song.

4. The mode

In most cases when a guitar player says “key,” he is referring to the chord or note that sounds like the tonal center of the song. This root may not always match the actual key which should be based on the parent major scale. For example, “Gloria” by Van Morrison revolves around, and resolves on E, but the chords are derived from the A major scale’s V IV and I (this produces E mixolydian mode).

Sometimes guitar players will name a key simply by whatever note or chord is first. For example, “Sweet Home Alabama” by Lynyrd Skynyrd starts on D, but G is the strongest tonal center, and the chords are derived from the G major scale’s V IV and I. The majority of the melodies, riffs and solos are based on G major pentatonic and G major scale. It’s more correct to say the song is in G, but most players call it D.

As you can see, guitar players have different meanings for the word “key,” and musicians can examine a song’s structure from different perspectives. Understanding how to recognize parent major scales and roots is critical to applying scales correctly for playing melodies, riffs, lead guitar solos and bass lines. A good approach to learning guitar theory is to always start with the parent major scale, then identify which note is functioning as the root.

10 Great Ringtones Make All Time List

Lynyrd Skynyrd Articles No Comments

Getting ringtones for your cell phone has become one of the hottest ways to set yourself apart on today’s scene. If you want to stand out in a crowd, the ringtone you choose can be a big step in the right direction.

So you want a great ringtone, but have no idea what makes one great? Follow the advice below and learn where the bar has been raised by the top 10 list below, dubbed the first class of the ringtone Hall of Fame.

Separating great ringtones from the rest of the bunch requires a series of judging criteria. First and foremost, a great ringtone must come from a great song. While it is possible for great songs to yield disappointing ringtones, the opposite is impossible. The ringtone must also be easily recognizable to many people. Everyone wants that ringtone that makes people smile and say, “I love that song” when your phone rings.

From a musical standpoint, the ringtone must be created from one of three song portions: the intro, the hook, or the solo. The success of these three parts to the musical equation are make or break for hit songs, making them essential to the success of a ringtone. Because of the technology format, songs that make great ringtones also need to have simple layers. Songs with dueling drums or guitars cause a ringtone to sound cluttered, making it difficult to identify by ear. The intros to songs like “Stairway to Heaven” and “A Thousand Miles” make great ringtones because they are catchy and easy on the ear.

In addition to coming from a particular section of a song, great ringtones must also feature a strong, repetitious percussion line. Whether that persistent pulse comes from the bass line of “Drop It Like It’s Hot” or from the synthesizers in “Take On Me,” the ability for many people to recognize a specific song comes from that repetition.

While the final keystones are being cemented into the ringtone shrine, here are the first ten inductees into the Ringtone Hall of Fame:

1. “In Da Club” – 50 Cent

Besides being Billboard’s inaugural “Ringtone of the Year” in 2004, 50’s first #1 hit has a bass line built for making heads bob. The strings section adds suspense to the song and puts high notes on top of the gutter base line. Having “In Da Club” as a ringtone means the party is never farther away than your phone.

2. “Stairway to Heaven” – Led Zeppelin

The calming woodwind that accompanies Page’s slow guitar picking makes for rock – and ringtone – heaven on earth. Several portions of this song have been made into ringtones, but the tone depicting the song’s introduction is truly a classic.

3. “Sweet Home Alabama” – Lynyrd Skynyrd

Music fans of all ages get a smile on their face at the first sound of this southern-rock classic. Change a party’s atmosphere from get together to jamboree by a simple “ring-ring.” The MP3 version is a required tone for country and classic rock fans.

4. “Super Mario Brothers” Game Theme

The essential ringtone for gamers. The polyphonic tone is an exact replication of the track from 16-bit Nintendo.

5. “Halloween” Movie Theme

Perfect custom tone for friends named Michael Myers. One of the most popular ringtones of all time that can outsell pop hits year round.

6. “The Next Episode” – Dr. Dre

While many hip-hop ringtones sound poor due to the overuse of dull bass lines, “The Next Episode” features thumping bass and a pulsating G-funk guitar lick, creating the bench mark for multi layered ringtones.

7. “Mission Impossible” Theme Song

Another incredibly popular ringtone despite its age that will only get more popular as the third installment of the movie franchise begins filming. Perfect as a custom tone for those over-demanding bosses in the workplace.

8. “Sandstorm” – DaRude

Like “Super Mario Brothers,” a distinct song replica is created by the polyphonic ringtone. A must for fans of techno music and another, sure fire, party-starter tone.

9. “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” Theme Song

The only hip-hop song your father can rap over is one of the most recognizable ringtones available. The beat is so contagious that setting it as your default ringer in a public place will cause a room to begin rhyming along as if they were Will Smith.

10. “The Jetsons” Theme Song

While the Jetsons had a lot of great things in their future world is one thing, not have their own songs as a ringtone cell phone. We do not have flying cars yet, but show the evolution of mobile technology with cheerful polyphonic ditty.
